  • Cardinal Cushing Centers’ Cheryl Clark Receives 2012 maaps Excellence in Teaching Award

    Plympton resident Cheryl Clark, special education teacher at Cardinal Cushing Centers, has been selected by the Massachusetts Association of Approved Private Schools (maaps) to receive the 2012 Excellence in Teaching Award. The award ceremony and luncheon will take place during the 34th Annual maaps Conference on May 4th. Cheryl is the second Cushing staff person to receive an award from maaps.   • South Shore Industries (SSI’s) Monthly Job Club

    Once a month, South Shore Industries, Cushing’s work development program for adults 22 and older,  hosts a Job Club for participants.  In January, Gerry Fanning, Director of Culinary Services, spoke about the Culinary Mentoring Program he has developed in Hanover. Seven gentlemen who are a part of SSI volunteer to mentor current Cushing students.     Cardinal Stritch University, one of our sister ministries sponsored by the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, is hosting a pilgrimage to Rome, Assisi and Augsburg from May 25 – June 5, 2012. Cushing staff were invited to apply for a scholarship by writing an essay expressing why they wanted to go on this trip and how they would bring their experience back to the entire Cushing community.     Today Cardinal Cushing Centers hosted a “Partners in Possibilities” breakfast to recognize leaders in employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Keynote speaker Leo Vercollone, President & CEO of VERC Enterprises, spoke about the benefits of employing individuals with disabilities and how that correlates directly to VERC’s success. 2011 was a tremendous year for VERC, landing the company a spot in the Boston Globe’s Top 100 Places to work. 20% of VERC’s workforce is comprised of individuals with disabilities.
