2012 Springtime Hero: Daniel Picewick, Cardinal Cushing Centers & Knights of Columbus

Daniel has a remarkable story. A former Cushing student and now a participant in South Shore Industries, Cushing’s work development program for adults, Daniel is the kind of person we should all strive to be.  He is a true hero who has shown what can be accomplished with determination and the support of people who believe anything is possible.

Daniel Picewick embodies the effort, energy, and educational commitment of the Cardinal Cushing Center s, which he attended from 1973-1977. He graduated from Blue Hills Regional High School in 1981 with a special focus in Culinary Arts. Soon after, he became a paper carrier for the Patriot Ledger, learning the values of punctuality, diligence in service and earning a paycheck.

In the Parish of St. Clare, Daniel is an extraordinary minister of the Eucharist and is faithful to his assignments. He enrolled as a distinguished member of the Parish Holy Name and was honored as “Person of the Year” at its closing communion brunch. Dan’s activity with the Knights of Columbus has been extraordinary for the last seven years. He is a fourth degree member, officer and honor guard member of the Knights. His parents, Marie and Bill, have been powerful motivators and nurture his self-confidence.

For the past three years Dan has been involved in Cardinal Cushing Centers’ South Shore Industries (SSI) program. Through SSI, he has volunteered at the Alliance Health Care Center in Braintree.

Dan gives back to his community every day. We are thrilled to be able to recognize and honor him hits year at Springtime.
