Annual Cushing Fun Run and Harvest Fest Brings in $90,000 for People with Disabilities
Cardinal Cushing Centers recently celebrated its 4th annual Cushing Fun Run & Harvest Festival – an inclusive 1-mile walk/run/wheelchair and fall event that helps raise money for programs that support individuals with intellectual disabilities. The event surpassed its goal and raised over $90,000, thanks to generous sponsors and participant crowd funding.
Over 500 people from around the South Shore came to support the free event, which included costume contests, 12 incredible raffle items, an appearance by players from the Banana Ball League, live music, horse-drawn carriage rides, face & pumpkin painting, bouncy houses, food, and vendor tents.
The top ‘Cushing staff employee fundraising’ prize of $500 went to Michael Jaxtimer Barry of Milton, who used to attend Cushing and is now a paid employee in the Culinary Department. He raised over $2,100 for the walk, through donations from various family and friends. Lead sponsors Sullivan Tire, Planet Subaru, McGee Toyota, Delphi Construction, Mass General Brigham, and National Grid, along with many other generous sponsors, championed Cushing to surpass its $90,000 goal.
