November 2017

Dear all,

I am pleased to bring you another update on the progress of the conversion of the Kennedy Building into the newly named Bethany Apartments, a mixed-income and workforce housing community located on our grounds in Hanover.

On October 23rd, we were thrilled to welcome Cardinal Sean O’Malley, The Honorable Lt. Governor Karyn Polito, and other esteemed guests of the Planning Office for Urban Affairs for a groundbreaking event celebrating this cutting edge project. We are honored to be a part of this venture along with so many key players including The Archdiocese of Boston, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, MassHousing, Bank of America, Rockland Trust, Federal Home Loan Bank of Boston, the Massachusetts Historical Commission, the Town of Hanover, National Park Service, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, The Architectural Team, Inc., NEI General Contracting, Inc., and Peabody Properties, Inc.

The event was covered widely in the local press. According to The Boston Herald, “This special moment in Hanover was a reminder that empathy can still be the currency that drives a deal for housing that families can afford.”

As we mentioned in our last update, construction is well underway. We are looking forward to welcoming new residents in the spring as we take another step forward toward our vision of creating a neighborhood where people with and without disabilities live, learn, work, and socialize together. Information about leasing an apartment is now available at www.bethanyapts.com and via Peabody Properties at 781-794-1046.

Recent Activities:

    • •  The installation of the new slate roof is nearing completion and new Energy Star wood windows are being installed.  This work will continue through most of December.

    • •  The first layer of asphalt for the new parking lot will be placed in early December; the final layer will be placed closer to construction completion in the early spring of 2018.

    •  Work continues on the interior to install electric, plumbing, heating and cooling systems, and fire sprinkler services for the new apartments.
